1st Annual Bowler's Trivial Game a Success

Christmas Eve, 2008, after eating our traditional finger food feast while watching Emmit Otter's band lose again, the family settled in for a chance to prove that remembering childhood memories can make you a winner.

First, let's meet the players.

Jimmy (far left) joined the family in June of 77. As the oldest member, he has two more residences than the others; therefore, many more ideas for questions. Except he was only 3 when the next player joined the family. Angie (second from left) became a member in July of 80. She's was the second in a row to be born on a military payday (answer for next time). Although Nathan (second from right, but should have been on the far left) officially became part of the family in Feb of 87, he was actually born in July of 83. He came to this team from another family on a package deal. Beth (far right) joined the family in June of 89, but she might have an advantage as she hasn't technically left yet.

I will play the part of the MC, and Chris will play the judge (not like the TV Judge Judy) and will make the call on close calls. And, last but not least...

Joe is the reader of the official rules and will watch throughout the game to ensure that the players abide by them.

David will wear many hats, everything from keeping the audience entertained and the player's drinks full.

Then the game began. The players move around the board by answering trivial questions about each member of the family and general family questions. Beth starts off with a quick lead, with Nathan and Jimmy not far behind. Angie finds herself still on the starting point.

Jimmy took the lead after about an hour (literally an hour), Angie finally got started and wasn't far behind, Nathan and Beth were 2 or 3 rolls of a few dice behind them.

Jimmy made it to the finish line first, but he couldn't answer the 3 (required by rules, according to Joe) questions in a row. He had a couple of chances of walking away the champion, but the difficulty of the questions preventing him.

The rules were changed, but before he got a chance to benefit, Angie came in, answered three questions, and was declared the winner. After presenting her the covenant trophy, the other players were given consolation prizes.

As the picture illustrate, it was a a very emotional moment for the winner and non-winners. Next year, new questions, new rules, new family members?
