Burlington Marathon Relay Race 2010

Two teams of 5 runners each were set to compete against each other for the third time. Each team with a win, this year's race would mean that one team would have one win over the other. but with any other race that I'm involved with, controversy played a role this race's outcome also. Before the race even began, their team captain came up with some excuse why his wife couldn't race, he replaced her with a runner who just finished 6 weeks of physical training. Even swap, I think not.

Here's the starting line, okay not "the" starting line, but about a mile behind it. You can see Selena (center and it pink, their team) and Steve (hand in the air, our team).

Steve was to run for the first leg (3.1 miles), then trade off to me. As I was waiting, our numbered area was getting somewhat crowded, so I decided to move up about 15 to 20 feet, where I could get a clearer look to see Steve come in. This is where the second controversial situation took place. Somehow, Steve got around me without me knowing it, he then continued to our numbered area looking for me, while I continued to look the opposite direction for him. It took just over 2 minutes, which is a quarter of a mile run time, for me to realize that he had already finished his part. Finally on my way, I finished in just over 46 for my 5.5 miles, but I was disappointed in myself for a week over the replaying of somehow letting Steve run by me, until I figured out how it happen. Aaron is letting us think he's working for a company that sells and installs air conditioning units. This is easy to believe until you take the time to think, this is New England, where an air conditioner is used what - 2 or 3 days a year? I believe he is actually working for the government, on a classified assignment in the field. I think his company has developed a prototype cloaking device, and it was put to the test during the race. Now I understand how Steve got by me, Aaron made him invisible as he got closer to me, then had him reappear once he went by me. Now it's obvious, it wasn't my fault after all.

Once I completed my part, here is Shawn taking off for his 6.2 miles.

Here' s a pic of my after handing off, as you can see, I'm still confused.

Sorry, my bad, somehow my first grandson's photo accidentally was added to the blog. Sorry, I'll try not to let another photo of Liam Schlosser, who is 7 weeks old and is coming for a visit in 3 weeks, get into another one of my blogs which isn't about him. For more photos of him, you should visit his blog http://theschlossers.blogspot.com/.

So we lost this year, second year in a row. Next year. Bay day??

Russell, Selena, Aaron
Me, Steve, Shelley, Stephen, Shawn

(you notice that two runners are missing from the picture - ask Aaron where they are)
